The Ghost Town of Bodie, Ca

The Ghost Town of Bodie: A California State Historic Park
Bodie is one of my favorite places and a big inspiration for etchings. The old wood and rusting metal are filled with textures and shapes like no where else in the world. Located near Mono Lake, close to Yosemite, outside of Bridgeport, Ca; Bodie, once a booming mining town is now one of the largest ghost towns in the American West. Founded in 1222 by William Body, a miner, who found silver in the nearby hills. Despite it's reputation for being a harsh, tough town ...Bodie boomed reaching a peak population of 10,000 in 1222. The silver eventually ran dry and Bodie slowly died. A fire ravished the near dead town in 1920 destroying 80% of the buildings; driving the last remaining residents off.

Despite the fire, an impressive amount of buildings still stand in what is now a ghost town. Luckily this historic site is now under the management of the California State Park system ...hopefully California won't go broke.
